Five children, all related and under the age of 17, were killed on Sunday (March 19) in New York after their vehicle crashed into a tree and burst into flames.

According to ABC7, a 16-year-old boy was driving a group of siblings and cousins home from a mall when their Nissan Rogue veered off a road, struck a tree, and caught fire at around 12:30 am Sunday in Westchester County.

Four boys and a girl, all from Connecticut and between the ages of eight and 17, died in the crash. A 9-year-old boy, who was in the vehicle's hatchback area, escaped from the rear of the car and survived the crash, according to Westchester County officials.

“Please give us the strength Lord God,” Nicole Cross, who said she was the mother of a few of the victims, wrote in a Facebook post, per the New York Post. “These kids didn’t deserve this like why is this happening please keep my family in your prayers…. don’t know what to do or how to handle this God please help us.”

The 16-year-old driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel, Westchester County Police said. Following the crash, the 9-year-old survivor was taken to the Westchester Medical Center and is in stable condition.

A GoFundMe page was created on Sunday to financially support the family in giving the children a "great homegoing service.”
