A Chicago police officer was found not guilty in the shooting death of his girlfriend.
On Friday (May 17), a Cook County jury found 32-year-old Pierre Tyler not guilty of first-degree murder in the 2021 fatal shooting of Andris Wofford, his girlfriend and mother of his child, per NBC Chicago.
Prosecutors said Wofford believed Tyler was married and had children with another woman, prompting an argument between the two.
On the day of Wofford's shooting, video shows Tyler walking into her home. Neighbors said they heard the pair arguing before a "loud muffled bang" went off. Tyler later left the home, according to video footage.
Wofford was found dead the next day with a gunshot wound in the head.
According to Tyler, Wofford pointed his gun at him. The gun went off as he attempted to shove it away, Tyler said.
The weapon was never recovered. Tyler didn't call 911 or notify anyone about the shooting.
A Chicago Police Department spokesperson said the officer is currently "inactive" while "on a leave of absence."
