The body of a British woman who died while having cosmetic surgery in Turkey was allegedly returned to her family without some of her vital organs, per ITV.
Kaydell Brown, 38, had traveled to Istanbul, Turkey earlier this year for a "mommy MOT," an all-in-one cosmetic operation that includes a Brazilian butt lift, tummy tuck, and a boob job. Brown was accompanied by her sister, Leanne, who detailed the moment when surgeons at Istanbul's Clinic Expert told her there had been complications during the procedure.
“She went in for surgery at about 9.30 a.m., and that was the last time I saw her,” Leanne Brown told ITV. “They took me to a room, and they just started trying to say, you know, there’s complications with surgery, you know things can happen. And I asked, ‘Has my sister died?’ And he just said, ‘I’m sorry, but yeah.’”
Soon after the incident, Leanne alleged that clinic staffers gave her an envelope of money and a plane ticket back home.
“They just gave me an envelope and said here’s your money back and here’s your sister’s money back. And here’s your flight. It’s like, sorry she’s dead, here’s your plane ticket,” Leanne said.
The sister noted that the clinic declined to give her access to Kaydell's body. When the body was returned to the UK, a coroner found parts of Kaydell's brain, lungs, and heart were missing.
“When they returned her body, they kept pieces of her heart and her intestines, and that could show the cause of death, but we might not know because they’re not very cooperative,” Leanne said.
The clinic maintains that it didn't remove or keep the organs.
“No evidence of organ trauma was found. We have handed the body untouched to the Coroner’s Office (in Turkey),” the clinic told ITV. “It is highly possible parts were removed while trying to determine the cause of death.”
A death certificate sent to the family cited no cause of death. The clinic said Kaydell's death was due to surgical complications.
“An internal investigation found no malpractice, and Kaydell’s death was likely caused by fat blocking a blood vessel, which can occur during this type of surgery,” the clinic stated.
Kaydell's family is still waiting for a cause of death from Turkish authorities.
