Questions still surround the case of a Black teen who was found after she was reported missing following an intended meeting with her older boyfriend in Georgia.
According to Henry County Police, 19-year-old Dajza Shields traveled from Texas to Stockbridge, Georgia on August 21 to meet up with Barrett Wagner, a 34-year-old white male from Tennessee. Authorities said she had plans to move to Tennessee with Wagner. However, Wagner allegedly failed to pick Shields up when she arrived at their meeting location at Forest Road.
No one had seen or heard from Shields since the intended meet-up. The Henry County Police Department shared photos of Shields and the man believed to be Wagner on Facebook, alerting the public of her disappearance. However, several social media users recognized the man in the photo as David Kash, a Canadian content creator. People speculated that Shields had fallen victim to catfishing.
After many pointed out the identity error, the department deleted Kash’s photo from the post.
Police recently updated the post saying Shields was found safe. However, the details surrounding Shields's disappearance remain unclear.
"Definitely catfished. There are like 30 pages with this guys pic," one Facebook user speculated.
"There may be another person behind this boyfriend. Has she really ever met him?" another user questioned.
"TikTok and picture probably been stolen. Happens alot unfortunately.... alot of influencers talk about this all the time," a third person commented.
