Vice President Kamala Harris has reportedly declined to invite Sen. JD Vance for a tour of the VP's residence ahead of President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.
A pre-inaugural tour of the vice president's residence at the US Naval Observatory, located a few miles from the White House, had become a norm over the past several administrations.
In 2008, then-Vice President Dick Cheney invited then-incoming VP Joe Biden to visit the vice president's home base ahead of former President Barack Obama's inauguration. Biden later welcomed Vice President-elect Mike Pence to the Naval Observatory in 2016.
However, Harris never visited the vice president's quarters prior to assuming office amid Trump's attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sources familiar with Vance's plans told CNN that he hadn't receive an invite from Harris to tour the residence. Vance repeatedly attacked Harris over her racial identity during his campaign with Trump and previously referred to the VP as "trash."
According to CNN, the Vance family did have a call with the staffers who run the Naval Observatory to “discuss the layout of the Residence, logistics, and practicalities of the move in, and to help answer any questions the Vance’s had as it related to the Residence.” Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff also reportedly took a call with incoming Second Lady Usha Vance last week but it's unclear what the two discussed.
