The son of a Florida private school president has been removed from his father's campus after a video surfaced of him professing his "hate" for Black people.
According to NBC 6, the student involved in the racist video was identified as the son of American Heritage School President Dr. Douglas R. Laurie. The student's grandfather, William R. Laurie, founded the Florida private academy.
Video that circulated around campus and emerged online shows the student, saying "I f**king hate n****rs."
American Heritage, a tuition-based school with about 4,200 students, boasts a diverse population with the student body representing roughly 70 countries.
Parents at the school told NBC 6 they were disgusted and upset by the racist video involving the president's son. Some said they were afraid to speak out about the incident for fear that their children would be kicked out of the academy.
American Heritage Schools confirmed that the student who used the slur wouldn't be allowed back on campus.
“American Heritage Schools can confirm that the student in question has been removed from campus and will not be allowed to return to the school,” the school said in a statement. “While we do not discuss specific matters regarding minors, we want to emphasize that our school upholds the highest standards of conduct and does not tolerate behavior that goes against our values, regardless of the individual involved. Our commitment is to maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for all students. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in respecting the privacy of those affected.”
