A Florida woman has been arrested after she allegedly drowned her dog in the bathroom at the Orlando International Airport.

According to PEOPLE, 57-year-old Alison Agatha Lawrence was arrested on charges of aggravated animal abuse, which is a third-degree felony.

Lawrence's arrest came three months after officers responded to a report at the Orlando International Airport of a dead animal inside the women's public restroom. According to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA), Lawrence drowned her dog in the toilet before going through security checkpoints. Lawrence reportedly attempted to board her flight with the dog but didn't have the proper paperwork.

Lawrence was apprehended by police three months after the incident and taken into custody in Lake County. She has since posted a $5,000 bond.

The GOAA spokesperson urged passengers to visit the TSA website to learn how to travel with their pets.

Animal Rights Foundation of Florida animal activist Bryan Wilson said, “Obviously, we were shocked when we heard a woman had effectively drowned her companion animal all because she couldn’t get on a plane."

“This is not a bottle of water or an oversized bottle of shampoo."
