The grandmother of one of the 10 inmates who escaped from a New Orleans jail has been arrested.
According to WDSU News, Connie Weeden, the grandmother of escapee Jermaine Donald, was arrested and charged with felony accessory after the fact.
Weeden is accused of assisting the fugitives by providing cash to Donald through a cellphone app. Donald's grandmother is among several individuals, including Cortnie Harris and Corvanntay Baptiste, who have been arrested for allegedly helping the inmates' jailbreak.
On May 16, a group of 10 inmates was found missing during a routine head count at the Orleans Justice Center Jail. Authorities said the group escaped the jail just after midnight through a wall behind a toilet.
Eight of the escapees had been captured as of Tuesday (May 27), with two remaining at large.
Harris and Baptiste were booked last week in Plaquemines Parish Detention Center on accessory after the fact. Harris was allegedly in contact with one of the inmates before the jail break and drove two escapees to “multiple locations in New Orleans” after the incident, according to investigators. Investigators said Baptiste was in contact with escapee Corey Boyd, who was caught last week. Baptiste allegedly brought food to Boyd while he was hiding in a residence.
If charged and convicted, the women could face up to five years in state prison.
