A man in Western Australia is facing murder charges after allegedly stabbing a woman to death and dumping her body in the ocean.
According to PEOPLE, the body of 25-year-old Helen Jeremy Solomon Marsuck was discovered on December 4, 2022, by a fisherman at Success Boat Harbour in South Fremantle. Authorities said Marsuck sustained 16 penetrating sharp force injuries.
Days after the victim's body was found, Muhammad Abdur Rehman Mirza, 23, was charged with one count of murder in connection with the case. The WA Supreme Court said the charge relates to an alleged offense that occurred on Dec. 1, 2022, three days before Marsuk’s body was found.
Prosecutors alleged that Mirza invited Marsuk to his home in exchange for sex and drugs. Mirza initially told police that a drug dealer had attacked both him and Marsuk. The 23-year-old claimed he had been injured and threatened in the same altercation.
However, in a separate conversation with an undercover operative, Mirza allegedly admitted to the killing, saying it was an act of self-defense. Prosecutors believe Mirza hid the victim's body in his bathroom for days before throwing it away in the ocean.
The case remains ongoing in the WA Supreme Court.
