As Black History Month begins, the Black Information Network is launching My History Lives Here, a monthlong initiative dedicated to spotlighting Black history museums across the United States — and the communities, stories, and legacies they preserve.

Kicking off Sunday (February 1), My History Lives Here will run throughout Black History Month, highlighting multiple museums per week. The project centers institutions that document Black life, culture, resistance, creativity, and achievement — from nationally recognized museums to deeply rooted local spaces that safeguard history at the community level.

Throughout the month, BIN will publish articles spotlighting each featured museum, offering context on its mission, history, and impact. Each story will also embed audio interviews recorded as part of the My History Lives Here series, featuring cultural leaders, public figures, artists, and community voices with ties to the museums and the cities they serve.

At a time when many Black history museums are facing increased challenges around funding, visibility, and long-term sustainability, My History Lives Here is about building awareness, encouraging engagement, and amplifying the importance of preserving these spaces. Black history is not confined to textbooks or the past — it is living, evolving, and rooted in the places that continue to tell our stories.
